Abstract

SEGURA, Ramiro; MUSANTE, Florencia; PINEDO, Jerónimo  and  VENTURA, Violeta. Ways of inhabiting the periphery during the pandemic. Get in, stay and get out. Bitácora Urbano Territorial [online]. 2022, vol.32, n.3, pp.253-266.  Epub Dec 02, 2022. ISSN 0124-7913.  https://doi.org/10.15446/bitacora.v32n3.99770.

This article explores the ways of dwelling the western urban periphery of the city of La Plata (Argentina) during the pandemic. We propose to go through a series of daily processes synthesized in the spatial practices of entering, staying and leaving of people from different social sectors that inhabit this area of expansion characterized by the diversity of land uses and a multiplicity of heterogeneous and unequal residential types. We argue that the characteristics of the western periphery as a place modulate the experience during the pandemic, giving rise to reconfigurations in living from isolation and distancing that mark specific processes, different from those of the city, and that in turn they imply arrangements in each social group.

Keywords : pandemic; urban space; daily life; suburb; social inequality.
