Objective.

The main objective of the study was to describe the social representations of gender-based violence against male athletes from a soccer club in Cali, Colombia.

Method.

A qualitative design and a semi-structured interview with 6 adolescents between 16 and 17 years old was used. The data analysis was carried out with an analytical induction method and some elements of discourse analysis that were processed through the Atlas.ti software.

Results.

Teen sports training promotes a type of hegemonic masculinity that requires the athletes to train in masculinity practices and adhere to a set of standards in order to be successful in their branch of sports. On the other hand, athletes who fail to adhere to the guidelines of promoted hegemonic masculinity become a target of subordination by their coaches and peers.

Conclusion.
