Abstract

FLORES-PRIETO, Pamela; POZO, Kelly  and  CRAWFORD, Livingston. Communication in Latin America: A Pending Debate beyond the Resistances. Signo pensam. [online]. 2018, vol.37, n.72, pp.95-105. ISSN 0120-4823.  https://doi.org/10.11144/javeriana.syp37-72.camd.

This articles reflects on the potential role that would play the Latin-American communications faculties and schools in the construction of non-mainstream communication visions. They would do it by inscribing the theories produced in our continent as perspectives pivotal to their curriculum and research plans. This proposal consists of three key points: 1) ‘To decolonize the knowledge' in order to consolidate a enunciation point allowing us not to be any more “the other” for ourselves: 2) to make that citizens become grantors of political projects intended to foster both the solidarity and the equity; 3) to assume the tasks and challenges implied by such an emancipatory endeavor, starting by the self-valued appropriation of our contributions to this field. It is concluded that the communication study programs should undertake the task to devise a new epistemology to overcome the continuous technological changes and to set out an academic proposal with which the plurality of voices is rendered as valid as the plurality of discourses.

Keywords : decolonize the knowledge; participatory citizens; non-mainstream communication; emancipatory project.
