At present it is estimated that 85% of the population has access to an adequate service of drinking water; but about 40% is not registered or billed, for leakage or clandestine outlets, which is a problem in the management and distribution of water for human consumption. A way to determine the efficiency of the system based on the values of the leakage flows, having as main indicator the infrastructure leakage index (ILI), which allows to measure the effectiveness of maintenance activities of red. In developed countries this index is considered, with an average pressure value during the 24 hours of the day; but the reality of the developing countries is another, so in this paper the two alternatives for the correction of the ILI are presented, based on statistical data on the unaccounted-for water of an Ecuadorian population.
Keywords : ILI; distribution of drinking water; unregistered water.
