Abstract

ANA MARIA, GRANADOS SÁNCHEZ. NEUROIMAGING IN EVALUATION OF DEMENTIA. rev.colomb.psiquiatr. [online]. 2000, vol.29, n.2, pp.163-176. ISSN 0034-7450.

Increase of word population average life span is accompanied by increment of againt associated pathology. Fortunately, tecnological advances allow early diagnosis through non-invasive, neuroimaging methods. Morphological and functional Information of the normal or pathological brain is obtainer. These data are useful in diagnosing several types of dementia (Alzheimer's vascular, fronto-temporal, AIDS, dementia complex, etc.). «Treatable causes of dementia» are detected with theseprocedures, along with chronic subdural hematoma, normal pressure hydrocephalus, primary tumprs and brain metastic illness. Functional images offer neurochemical information about certain brain metabolites, which are helpful in differential diagnosis of several CNS illnesses.
