Abstract

Objective: To review the need of the informed consent for psychotherapeutical practice, considering the legal aspects, the physician-patient relationship and the patientals attitude about the treatment. Methods: A research strategy was made in the available databases, local legislation and international recommended normativity, during February 2004. Results: We found 35 descriptive studies; some of them mentioned the improvement of the physicianpatient relationship and other mentioned the attitude changes about the therapy, when informed consent was applied. Conclusions: Considering the literature found, theoethical referents and legal aspects, the application of informed consent becomes almost a requirement to psychotherapy.
