Abstract
VEGA, VERÓNICA C. ARGENTINE ADAPTATION OF AN INVENTORY TO MEASURE GENDER-ROLE IDENTTITY. rev.latinoam.psicol. [online]. 2007, vol.39, n.3, pp.537-546. ISSN 0120-0534.
The aim of the work was to adapt the Bem Sex-Role Inventory (Bem, 1974) to an argentine adolescent population. The original version was translated to Spanish, and was self-administered to 434 adolescents (both sexes, 13-20 years old), pupils of Public High Schools of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Scores were obtained and each subject was classified according Bem´s methods. Nearly 40% of the sample identified themselves with stereotypes for their own gender. Boys integrated their feminine modalities easier than girls their masculine behaviors. When comparing results with Bem's, I corroborated cross-cultural studies indicating that Latin- American countries privilege stereotypically feminine behaviors. Results may suggest a better interpersonal harmony and greater caring for others over individual benefits in Latin-American countries
