This paper describes the conceptual referents, methodology and outcome of the self-assessment process of the postgraduate program "Especialización en Gerencia de Servicios de Información" at the Escuela Interamericana de Bibliotecología. This process is understood as an evaluation exercise of self-reflection of the theoretical and practical actions carried out during its four cohorts since 1998. Self-assessment is considered as a strategy that allows students, teachers, graduates, administrative staff and employers to identify and assess the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the curriculum. All of this with the aim of improving consistently and getting academic excellence by establishing actions and plans to guarantee high standards of quality, opportunity and effectiveness in the academic services offered by the Universidad de Antioquia.
