Abstract

This article is the result of essay presented in the discipline Epistemology of the Information Science, offered to doctoral students of the Program of Postgraduate in Information Science from the Federal University of Santa Catarina - PGCIN/UFSC, in 2013/1. The text discusses investigation proposal whose purpose is to know what the ''meaning'' of the school library for basic education students placed in schools linked to the government of Santa Catarina, state located in the southern region of Brazil. The anchorage epistemological and methodological chosen to host the investigation is the phenomenological. From this fundament, some considerations of conceptual nature are developed, a part of the phenomenology history, Highlighting Edmund Husserl, and some of his followers as Max Weber, Alfred Schutz, Thomas Luckmann. It also presents the reasons to elect the phenomenology - doctrine and method as the one that best supports the proposed investigation, and discuss the object of study, the school library, and human interactions, in and out of the school that affect this environment of in-formation.
