Abstract

CADAVID-GOMEZ, Beatriz. The Legal Deposit in Colombia in the National Bibliographical Control. Rev. Interam. Bibliot [online]. 2015, vol.38, n.1, pp.81-90. ISSN 0120-0976.

The legal deposit, in addition to be the basis for the national collection constitution, is a sine qua non requirement for creating national bibliography, that is, the creation of the bibliographical records of every single new publication. Colombia has, since the 19th century, a regulation commanding editors around the country to submit to a governmental institution some copies of their editorial production; not being this the only ruling, since during the 20th century, many rulings were issued trying to regulate that action, some more successful than others. That is the case of Law 44 of 1993 and Decree 460 of 1995. This reflection paper analyzes that law to show how it is still insufficient to keep national bibliographical control.

Keywords : Legal deposit - Colombia; Universal bibliographical control; National bibliographical control.
