Abstract

An analysis of scientific activity in Puerto Rico is presented, through the bibliometric characterization of the research carried out at the University of Puerto Rico, based on indicators of productivity, collaboration, visibility and impact, and research topics. The analysis is carried out from a database of own creation that collects Web of Science data subjected to an exhaustive normalization. The data corresponding to the aforementioned indicators are analyzed. The results allow to present a synoptic picture about the scientific work in the University of Puerto Rico, the data show the leadership of this institution supported by its production, the level of scientific collaboration and the visibility and impact of said production. The areas of research with the greatest potential are identified, according to the activity index, and the potential participation of this institution in the economic development of Puerto Rico is highlighted.
