Abstract

GIRADO SIERRA, Jesús David. KARL POPPER'S EVOLUTIONARY EPISTEMOLOGY AND SENSE OF TRUTH. Escritos - Fac. Filos. Let. Univ. Pontif. Bolivar. [online]. 2013, vol.21, n.47, pp.449-462. ISSN 0120-1263.

Karl Popper's evolutionary epistemology is an interesting dynamic integration between the Darwinian concepts "survival of the fittest" and "Natural Selection", and the epistemological understanding of science and its methodological display. with this hypothesis, Popper not only aims to explain how we obtain common knowledge, but also the debugging process of scientific knowledge. Thus, the Popperian proposal of analyzing the methodological process of selection of theories, in the light of the Darwinian thesis and the concepts of competition and strength, becomes a fundamental prerequisite in order to explain the testability, via either falsification or experimental testing of theories. Just like an organism struggling to adapt itself to the environment, theories should be adapted increasingly to the explanation of facts, so they might shed some light in the understanding of phenomena. However, such a biological/ epistemological proposal is contrasted with Popper's exhibited metaphysical proposal of truth, which is not only seen by him in an objective way but as a real ideal, though it is paradoxically unattainable.

Keywords : Evolutionary Epistemology; Truth; Natural Selection; Adaptation; Testability.
