Abstract

VEGA, RODRIGO ANTONIO  and  ORTEGA BAEZ. Meteoritics in the Mexico City Press (1863-1876). Anu. colomb. hist. soc. cult. [online]. 2014, vol.41, n.2, pp.163-190. ISSN 0120-2456.  https://doi.org/10.15446/achsc.v41n2.48785.

The historiography of Mexican science lacks studies on the development of meteoritics, especially during the period between 1863 and 1876, when both professionals and amateurs carried out diverse inquiries. The objective of the paper is to understand the development of meteoritics during a period of political crisis and significant scientific development, through the analysis of twenty-six texts published in both the academic and general press. The study of these texts shows that aerolites were of great interest to the Mexico City scientists, who received support during the Second Empire and the Restored Republic.

Keywords : geology; meteoritics; Mexico; press; scientific; 19th century.
