The hypertensive patient who will undergo surgery, in occasions faces the anesthesiologist to difficult situations. This is not only related to the medical management but also to take the decision of when is the best time to proceed with the surgical intervention. This is true specifically in patients with uncontrolled or advanced stages of hypertension. In this group of patients, it is necessary to count with defined parameters which allow us to identify which patient can undergo surgery, with the minimum risk associated to its cardiovascular pathology. This article intends to offer some guidelines that will be useful the next time in which we have a patient with these characteristics.
