Abstract

SIGALA PAPARELLA, Luis Eduardo  and  LEON DARDER, Fidel. Classification of Venezuelan affiliates according to their conditions for the local environment. Cuad. Adm. [online]. 2007, vol.20, n.34, pp.331-352. ISSN 0120-3592.

The objective of this article is to propose a classification of Venezuelan affiliates of multi-national companies according to their conditions for the local environment. To do so, a qualitative methodology with case studies of the affiliates located in Venezuela was used and the dimensions employed were the determinism of the environment and the proactive nature of the affiliate. Four groups of affiliates were identified: those that were favored, those that were disfavored, those that adapted, and those that progressed. The article discusses the components used to build each category, the effects that were observed in the roles of the affiliates, and the responses of the directors in each group, for the affiliate as well as for the parent company, regarding their conditions for the environment.

Keywords : Affiliate abroad; strategic role; environment; classification.
