Abstract

ARIAS, Daniel Eduardo; ECHEVERRI RAMIREZ, Oscar  and  HOYOS PATINO, Fabián. THE GEOELECTRICAL RELATIONS ON THE GEOTECHNICAL EXPLORATION. Bol. cienc. tierra [online]. 2012, n.31, pp.39-50. ISSN 0120-3630.

The electrical resistivity of geomaterials is has been widely used in groundwater prospection, and in a more limited extent in geotechnical engineering. This work is intended to contribute to the understanding of the relationship between geomaterials resistivity and physical characteristics. The research has been concentrated in, but no limited to, residual soils derived from igneous and metamorphic rocks in the Antioquia Central Highland (Col), using the results of vertical electrical sounding (VES), coupled with standard penetration and laboratory tests. The results of this research indicate that it is possible discriminate the geomaterials in the subsoil based on the geoelectrical resistivity when it is coupled with an appropriated knowledge of local geology.

Keywords : geophysical prospection; mechanical sounding; vertical geoelectrical sounding.
