Abstract

CARDENAS-PALERMO, Yeimy. Intergenerational Bond, Childhood and Education: Notes for Thinking about the Role of Children's Schooling. Rev. colomb. educ. [online]. 2021, n.83, e307.  Epub Aug 06, 2022. ISSN 0120-3916.  https://doi.org/10.17227/rce.num83-11375.

The reflection article analyzes some meanings about the intergenerational link and its implications in the ways of assuming child-adult relationships and in the ways of conceiving childhood, education, and school, because of the reflections derived from some of the research developed in the last decade in the line "Childhood, culture and education", ascribed to the group Education and Political Culture of the National Pedagogical University of Colombia. The article problematizes the ideas of individualism and unschooling promoted by contemporary discourses about the child, as well as the risks for the sustainability of the meanings of schooling and the school as an institution responsible for the production of humanity and its care, based on the links between old and new generations. The text is developed in three sections, the first one reviews the category of the intergenerational link; the second, the meanings acquired by the intergenerational link as a constitutive principle of the modern school and, the third, a discussion about the reconceptualization of the function of schooling of children today, emphasizing the role of subject-adult who educates in school: the teacher.

Keywords : childhood; early childhood education; childcare; teacher student relationship; generational transmission.
