Abstract

PRIETO-CONTRERAS, Laura Alejandra  and  TORRES-WALTEROS, Gina Isabel. Issues of Diversity and Democracy in a Regular Mathematics Classroom with Deaf Students. Rev. colomb. educ. [online]. 2023, n.87, pp.323-346.  Epub Jan 01, 2023. ISSN 0120-3916.  https://doi.org/10.17227/rce.num87-12111.

In this text, some parameters present in the regular classroom mathematics classes with deaf students are exposed, which allow us to propose activities that favor participation and democracy from the community, in favor of learning the mathematical objects that are addressed in them. This, conceptions from perspectives on democracy, inclusive education and diversity are sustained. The methodology that guides the study is presented from a qualitative approach within the framework of action research. The proposal is materialized in an inclusive classroom (regular students with deaf students); and from this it is concluded that in order to potentiate the community in the regular classroom mathematics classes with deaf students, it is necessary to have as a reference the interests of the students in the planning of strategies, provide materials that enhance visual language, carry out a adequate distribution of space, provide support and mediation by the teacher and interpreter, contribute to collective work and provide appropriate conditions for all students belonging to these classrooms. This is evidenced through the implementation of the teaching methodology by statistical projects.
