Abstract

ROVIRA-COLLADO, José; MIRAS, Sebastián; MARTINEZ-CARRATALA, Francisco Antonio  and  BAILE-LOPEZ, Eduard. Graphic Literary Biographies as non-Fiction Books. Poetry and Historical Memory in Panels. Rev. colomb. educ. [online]. 2023, n.89, pp.359-388.  Epub Mar 08, 2024. ISSN 0120-3916.  https://doi.org/10.17227/rce.num89-17425.

Graphic literary biographies are comics focused on the life and work of authors from different literary stages. As a historical recovery, they are non-fiction texts that include references to the works of their protagonists. In this research, we focus on the didactic possibilities of these comics to work on literature at different educational levels. We present a list of 25 examples of graphic literary biographies in Spanish to later focus on two poets who were victims of the Spanish Civil War, Federico García Lorca and Miguel Hernández, studying two biographies of each one. The veracity of the narrated facts is analyzed through the documentation collected by the authors or the historical sources used. We describe its educational possibilities for working with poetry by including multiple literary references. In addition, these four comics are classified by the fictionality or not of the text and the picture of each as indissoluble parts of the story. These biographies are shown as non-fiction comics to work on historical memory in literature and language class.
