Abstract

MADRONAL, Ignacio Federico. Emotion in Action: To Feel with the Body or to Feel in the Body?. Prax. filos. [online]. 2023, n.56, pp.137-158.  Epub Apr 20, 2023. ISSN 0120-4688.  https://doi.org/10.25100/pfilosofica.v0i56.12047.

Over the last century, attempts have been made to examine the nature of mental states from numerous perspectives, often ignoring the fact that any theory of mind must also adequately analyze emotions. The purpose of this paper is to explain the requirements that a good theory about the emotional must meet, based on the critical examination of three different approaches: behaviorism, functionalism and enactivism. I will argue that, among them, only the latter constitutes a satisfactory theory because it makes explicit the important role that the bodily dimension plays in our emotional experience.

Keywords : Emotion; Theories of mind; Behaviorism; Functionalism; Enactivism..
