Abstract

GARCIA REYES, Paola  and  SANABRIA, Pablo. Critical Views on the State from Anthropology and Public Administration: Looking through its Swing. univ.humanist. [online]. 2016, n.82, pp.17-47. ISSN 0120-4807.  https://doi.org/10.11144/Javeriana.uh82.vcea.

This article presents an overview of the main critical approaches to the state from two social sciences in apparently different paths: anthropology and public administration. We review different critical views to the role of the state, and to the theories themselves, and their evolution over time from a swinging metaphor. The swings characterize the cumulative advances in theories, approaches and explanations that come and go in search of the state, and question its impact and its role in society. Based on this framework, we introduce the texts that are part of this issue. They contribute to the construction of critical perspectives of the state from the social sciences in Latin America.

Keywords : critical studies of the state; public administration; anthropology.
