Abstract

RIOS OSORIO, Leonardo Alberto. A reflection on Research Biomedical Model. Salud, Barranquilla [online]. 2011, vol.27, n.2, pp.289-297. ISSN 0120-5552.

The biomedical research model is a historical epistemological construction which emerged as a consequence of the relationship established between the health-disease concept and the scientific research model, and the logic of this relationship is in the basis of itsconceptual structures. Historically, the biomedical research model has its ontological and teleological characteristics on the assumption of Cartesian reality with the deconstruction and separated study of pathological phenomenon elements that are study object. Consequently, there has been a dissociation between being and matter in pathological phenomena. This paper proposes that the relationship established in the West between health-disease phenomenon and scientific research requires the integration of externalities that influence this relationship, for that reason, biomedical researchers need to broaden their arguments horizon and explore new ways of understanding their study objects, based on new ways of comprehension and interpretation of reality, and trying to cover complexity inherent to pathological phenomena. Therefore, there is a need to seek new epistemological alternatives, complementary to the biomedical model, to make the scientific research of pathological phenomena more consistentfrom their complexity.
