Abstract

Objective: To determine the perception of musculoskeletal discomfort and postural risk in workers of an institution of higher education. Materials and Methods: descriptive, cross-sectional study in 302 workers in the administrative and operational. Simple random sampling was carried out. Musculoskeletal discomforts in 9 body regions were defined using the Nordic questionnaire. Using method OWAS to analyze the standpoint of back, legs and arms and charge raised by workers during their work task, allowing to estimate the risk for musculoskeletal disorders. Using the program SPSS 18 was descriptive statistics and bivariate analysis, getting the odd ratios of the relationship between the positions taken and the level of risk. Results: The perception in the last 12 months of musculoskeletal pain in the cervical, dorsal and lumbar region, reported at a 37.4 % and 31.8 % and 37.7 % of workers, respectively. Workers who keep an arm and other high or both arms raised during your workday is 3.7 times more irrigation of disorders musculoskeletal [OR 3,7 (IC 95 % (1,4-10,1)], similarly, 2.5 times [OR 2.5 (95 % CI (1,4-5,4)] when lifted loads between 10 and 20 kilo-grams or greater than 20 kg. Conclusion: Musculoskeletal discomfort affects workers in the educational institution, mainly in the cervical, dorsal and lumbar areas. In the present study, the positions adopted by the workers during their work activities influence the postural risk for musculoskeletal disorders.
