Gabriel García Márquez maintained during his whole life an impassioned relationship with the dictionary which made him develop his own ideas about it, which he expressed in a very scattered way in different texts. This work carried out a detailed analysis of one of these essential texts: the «Prologue» to Clave. Diccionario de uso del español actual. The main aim is to prove if his ideas on the dictionary evolved in any way from the ideas which he had previously stated fifteen years earlier in some of his famous press notes from the eighties.
