Abstract

CAVALHEIRO, Maria Eloisa. The action of regional political elites and its impact in the development of la Meseta Media Gaucha in Brasil, 1930-1945. Semest. Econ. [online]. 2009, vol.12, n.23, pp.97-118. ISSN 0120-6346.

This article intends to demonstrate how "gaucho" regional political elites had an incidence in the arena of the epoch between 1930 and 1945. Social, political and economic factors which made the development and growth of the region possible were tackled. They filled the gap left throughout national history with documents, news, and notes, which demonstrate particular events and local identity. At the same time, through location coefficients, the potentiality of Passo Fundo, and Carazinho municipalities was analyzed, and based on 1940 census, specialization factors at regional and domestic level are related. It was concluded that political elites belonged to the institutional context in a direct and indirect way, and supported the government, specially the federal one, while economic elites acted in different segments of society, outstanding in several occupations and professions.
