Analysis of competitiveness implies answering a logical question about the factors that determine it, and, since competitiveness is a changing object, it must be understood in terms of dynamics. Taking into account its importance, this article aims to analyze the competitiveness of agroalimentary system of onion in the Irrigation District of Alto Chicamocha (Boyacá). The article is focused on the productive chain with an emphasis on the production and trading links at micro level. The factors at this level constitute management capacity of agrarian enterprises and other organizations, management strategies, innovation, development of the productive chain, technological cooperation, management logistics, and interaction of the participants. In order to complement the above mentioned factors, human talent and the product itself are also added since they determine competitiveness. It can be concluded from this research that agroalimentary system of onion in the Irrigation District of Alto Chicamocha presents advantages in growth areas, yields per hectare, support of different institutions, and product distribution at the national level. The weaknesses are centered in management, association problems, and some failures in the integration among the participants.
