Abstract

REINO BUELVAS, Alberto  and  VASQUEZ DUQUE, Gloria. Rheumatological manifestations of HIV infection. Iatreia [online]. 2005, vol.18, n.2, pp.185-198. ISSN 0121-0793.

With the appearance of the HIV/AIDS complex several rheumatic manifestations have become evident. Joint involvement includes arthralgia, HIVassociated arthritis, Reiter.s syndrome, psoriatic arthritis and undifferentiated spondyloarthropathy. A kind of myopathy induced by HIV has also been documented and it must be distinguished from zidovudine-induced, and Toxoplasma-produced myopathies. Diffuse Infiltrative Lymphocytosis Syndrome (DILS) is exclusive of patients positive for HIV; it resembles Sjögren.s syndrome but there are some clinical and immunological differences between them. The presence of autoimmune phenomena is frequent in HIV-infected patients; the most frequent of them is polyclonal hypergammaglobulinemia. Different types of vasculitis have also been described in the HIV/AIDS complex.

Keywords : acquired immune deficiency syndrome; autoantibodies; diffuse infiltrative lymphocytosis syndrome; hiv-infection; joint diseases; myopathy; vasculitis.
