The history of cartography has undergone a revolution in terms of disciplinary expectations and academic production. One of the principal figures behind this shift, Brian Harley, explored the relationship between cartography, knowledge, and power, stimulating the analysis of the role of maps and cartographic rationality in culture, social, and political terms. This article summarizes his contributions and provides an overview on the state of the history of cartography internationally and in Colombia and Latin America.
