Abstract

ROJAS MIRA, Claudia Fedora. The Hosts of Chilean Exiles in Mexico, 1973-1993. hist.crit. [online]. 2016, n.60, pp.123-140. ISSN 0121-1617.  https://doi.org/10.7440/histcrit60.2016.07.

This article seeks to explain the nature of the relations between the government of Chile and that of Mexico before the coup d'état of 1973 and throughout the entire period of Chilean exile in Mexico. The objective is to delve into the experience of exile of Chile's leftist militants who took refuge in Mexico, by studying their background and that of their main sponsors in the country that received them. It concludes that as a result of the relations established between distinguished Chilean and Mexican personalities before the coup, the political, economic, social and cultural reproduction of Chilean exile in Mexico was made possible. For this purpose, a documentary type of study was done -by reviewing bibliography and archives- which was then cross-referenced with information obtained from interviews of important figures who were either in exile or were related to those who were.
