Abstract: Following a brief review of the main themes in the historiography of the October Revolution of 1917, the article proposes a historical-social approach to the that historic event. For this purpose, it describes the four great social mobilizations that prepared the way for the revolution in October and highlights both the conjunctural convergence and the fundamental differences between these mobilizations and the political revolutionism represented by the Bolshevik Party, a divergence that catalyzed much of Russian/Soviet development up until 1991.

Keywords : historiography; Russian Revolution; mobilizations; 1917.
