Abstract

ANCIZAR NARVAEZ, M.. Educommunication and Media Literacy: Technology or Culture? Training or Education?. Pedagogía y Saberes [online]. 2021, n.55, pp.155-174.  Epub Feb 16, 2022. ISSN 0121-2494.  https://doi.org/10.17227/pys.num55-12245.

The status of Educommunication, as a generic name equivalent to the English generic term Media Literacy, is debated between the disciplinary (theoretical), the political, the technical, the semiotic, and the aesthetic. Based on the reading of the works presented at recent academic events and the review of some of the publications on the subject that have appeared during the last decade, it is intended to show that all these possibilities are being reduced to the use, within the educational system, of the so-called Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), which are expected to produce positive changes in school learning, and the democratization of society. From the discussion raised, it is concluded that instead of cultural competencies, one is talking about operational skills and instead of education, one is talking about training.

Keywords : cultural competences; Edu-communication; media literacy; skills; training.
