Abstract

ROMO MORALES, Gerardo. Nation, nationalism and nationalist movements: a theoretical review of the myth institutionalization. Investig. desarro. [online]. 2014, vol.22, n.2, pp.331-359. ISSN 0121-3261.

In this paper a theoretical discussion of "nation" and other related categories is developed. The two more recognized positions are critically presented: those who assume that the nation is fundamentally a cultural, primordial and perennial category, and those who see it as a political construction of modernity. An analytical comparison between the categories of identity and ethnicity and the central notion of nation are presented, as well as a critical review of the role of nationalist as clergy serving for a fundamental construct of modernity.

Keywords : Nation; nationalism; identity; institutions; modernity.
