Abstract

DIANA M., Torres-Novoa  and  VICTOR L., Hurtado-Nery. Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) nutritional requirements. Orinoquia [online]. 2012, vol.16, n.1, pp.63-68. ISSN 0121-3709.

The purpose of this review was tocompile information regarding recent advances concerning some Nile tilapia (OreochromisNiloticus) nutrient requirements. The raw protein requirements are beingsubstituted for specific amino acid requirements, such as lysine andmethionine, applying the ideal protein concept. Nile tilapia"s nutritionalrequirements suggested by NRC (1993) differ by some amounts from thenutritional requirements estimated for tilapia in tropical conditions. Thesupply of rations attending to the nutrient demand from the different phases oftilapia"s lifecycle lead to optimum yield being obtained regarding weight gainand feed conversion, guaranteeing high sanitary status when producingthis specie.

Keywords : nutrientdemand; energy; mineral; fish; protein.
