Abstract

ROMERO SANCHEZ, Jacqueline. Relevance of the inclusion of cts in the curriculum of vocational technical career Facial and Body Aesthetics. Rev. Fac. Cienc. Tecnol. [online]. 2014, n.35, pp.132-152. ISSN 0121-3814.

The technicians in Facial and Body Aesthetics play an important role in the economic and intellectual development of the country. In the exercise of its activity, these professionals use cosmetic and / or cosmeceutical products, beauty equipment and manual techniques to provide the society with improvements in their life quality. In Facial and Body Aesthetics training, the relationship between science and technology is established in a way that allows students acquire knowledge based on the interaction of cosmetic and / or cosmeceutical products with the machines and equipment handled in the beauty treatments. This relationship science - technology along with its impact on society justifies the curricular changes at national and international levels in the area of Facial and Body Aesthetics, which could include STS relations. In order to show the importance of STS relationships in the curricular program for these technicians, we present an explanation on scientific and technological literacy, as well as the illustration of the origin and meaning of the STS within the framework based on the educational perspective. After completing this general explanation, the STS relationship with Facial and Body Aesthetic was stated to describe logically its social function in order to highlight that this type of program requires its curriculum to be restructured. Finally the authors present some difficulties for the inclusion of STS in the program of this technical career and specify some perspectives and conclusions. The revision of previous studies related to the inclusion of CTS in the curriculum of the technical course of Facial and Body Aesthetics didn't show positive results at national level, because this program had recently been approved by the Ministerio de Educaciòn Nacional. Likewise, we couldn't find positive results at international level, due to this area has not been taken as a field of knowledge because it doesn't have scientific foundations. This point of view is not related with our reality and in consequence there are few research studies about pedagogy and Didactics in this area.
