Analyzing the relationship between public space and democracy is essential to understanding democratic transformations and the dynamic relationships between human beings and their urban environments. The present study aims to examine the forms of appropriation and meanings of public space from the perspective of the youth of the intermediate city of Montería, Córdoba, Colombia. It applied a qualitative methodology based on the theory of social representations and followed a differential approach. Twenty-five young people participated in the study through semi-structured interviews. The interviews were transcribed and analyzed using axial coding. Among its main results, the study identified a complex relationship of categories associated with public space.
