Abstract

SANTOS GOMEZ, David  and  ACOSTA OLAYA, Cristian. COLOMBIAN POPULISM IN THE WORK OF DANIEL PÉCAUT. anal.polit. [online]. 2022, vol.35, n.105, pp.5-30.  Epub Mar 27, 2023. ISSN 0121-4705.  https://doi.org/10.15446/anpol.v35n105.107740.

This article studies Daniel Pécaut’s reflections on populism in Colombia, given their theoretical and analytical depth. It examines how the French sociologist, when addressing populism in different works, links the phenomenon with political processes from the Colombian past and present. The first part explores the meaning and resignification of historical situations based on the study of political languages through the identification of what we call interpretive peaks and folds in debates that try to define the concept of populism. The second part examines the conclusions at which Pécaut arrives in his analyses of historical cases, especially Gaitanism in the 1940s. With this, the article seeks to discuss the author’s descriptive and normative assumptions about the role of popular sectors and democracy in the Colombian experience.

Keywords : Daniel Pécaut; populism; democracy; Gaitanism; political languages..
