Abstract
FITZSIMONS, Alejandro. The specificity of ground rent in the oil industry from a Marxian perspective. Cuad. Econ. [online]. 2019, vol.38, n.76, pp.1-21. ISSN 0121-4772. https://doi.org/10.15446/cuad.econ.v37n76.54328.
This article highlights two particularities of ground rent determination and appropriation in the oil industry. First, it shows that oil non-renewability leads to the preponderance of political and/or institutional forms in the exercise of land ownership. Second, it claims that the distinction between resource and surface ownership generates a tendency towards the unification between the functions of the capitalist and the landlord. Finally, it illustrates this essentially theoretical questions through an analysis of the global oil industry between 1920 and 1970.
