Abstract

ALAYON, José Luis  and  BOADA BAYONA, Carolina. Unconscious electoral decisions: Biases that determine the vote in Colombia. Cuad. Econ. [online]. 2022, vol.41, n.87, pp.723-745.  Epub Jan 24, 2023. ISSN 0121-4772.  https://doi.org/10.15446/cuad.econ.v41n87.91266.

Behavioral economics has shown that heuristics can drive decision-making and lead humans to make irrational choices. This article analyzes how behavioral biases can affect electoral choices. It also seeks to demonstrate why becoming aware of the existence of behavioral biases is the best way to avoid the election of candidates which do not necessarily represent the interests of the electorate. Additionally, the article analyzes some surveys which recollect the perception of citizens with regards to the general situation of Colombia and Bogotá and explains how the conclusions reflected in the data are related to the behavioral biases.
