Abstract

GOMEZ RODRIGUEZ, María Elisa; VILLALBA MORALES, María Luisa  and  PEREZ VALENCIA, Diana Marcela. COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVAT1ON CAPABILITIES IN THE COLOMBIAN MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY, 2006-2014. A REVIEW BASED ON THE LATENT CLASS ANALYSIS METHOD. Innovar [online]. 2020, vol.30, n.77, pp.93-106.  Epub Nov 20, 2020. ISSN 0121-5051.  https://doi.org/10.15446/innovar.v30n77.87451.

This work presents a latent class analysis for understanding the evolution of innovation capabilities in the Colombian manufacturing industry, following the premises of the resource-based approach. This analysis used data from the Technological Innovation and Development Survey (EDIT, in Spanish) for the period 2006-2014, provided by Colombian companies within this sector. Findings show a trend of low levels in the acquisition of capabilities for the five capabilities studied. Based on these results, the need to establish strategies that allow the manufacturing industry to improve its capabilities becomes clear. Similarly, it is suggested to review the frameworks that underlie existing measurement instruments in order to strengthen the information required for strategic decision-making regarding innovation within the business and government sphere.

Keywords : Colombia; latent class analysis; manufacturing industry; technological innovation capabilities.
