Abstract

Acetaminophen is an analgesic and antipyretic medication considered safe and effective. Because of this, in Colombia it is freely available and widely used in both children and adults. Due to its easy access, acetaminophen intoxication is a frequent event, so primary care physicians must be knowledgeable about its diagnosis and management. In addition to the risk factors for the development of liver failure and the indications for referring patients to specialized services. The purpose of this article is to guide primary health care personnel about the pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment of this intoxication.
