Abstract
DA GRACA COSTA, MARIA; DIMENSTEIN, MAGDA and LEITE, JÁDER. Strategies for Mental Health Care and Support for Women From Rural Settlements. Rev. colomb. psicol. [online]. 2015, vol.24, n.1, pp.13-28. ISSN 0121-5469. https://doi.org/10.15446/rcp.v24n1.41968.
The objective of this study was to examine the strategies for psychosocial care and support offered to adult women residing in rural settlements in Brazil. The Self-Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ-20) was administered in order to identify the prevalence of Common Mental Disorders (CMD) and semi-structured interviews were carried out, which revealed positive CMD hypotheses. Results showed that despite the high prevalence of CMD (43.6%), these women do not turn to the health network to address these issues and that the sole resource offered by primary healthcare is the prescription of anxiolytic drugs. Religion and work stand out as the most important support strategies for the mental health of these women.
