Abstract
BLANCO MEJIA, Óscar. The “Voice of the Municipalities”. Municipality and Central State During the Regeneration in Colombia (1886-1900). Anu.hist.reg.front. [online]. 2021, vol.26, n.2, pp.401-428. Epub May 30, 2021. ISSN 0122-2066. https://doi.org/10.18273/revanu.v26n2-2021013.
The article is about the process of state centralization during the Regenera- tion (1886-1900) seen from the periphery.
Up to now, there are brief approximations that mostly indicate its failure. De- spite its importance, these antecedents need more evidence. For this reason, its conclu- sions are contrasted with the consultation of little-explored archives such as municipal archives and the legislative archive fund of the General Archive of the Nation. It also recovers the theoretical and conceptual contributions of the new political history to account for how the State incorporates the municipalities into its sphere of influence.
As a result, it is argued that despite its limitations, the project of a Central State advanced during the period cannot be considered a total failure, it had the sup- port of many municipalities that took an active part in this process, accepting and negotiating the model of State that was desired to be implemented.
