Abstract
MUNOZ, Fernanda. Indigenous communities and resguardos in the Atriz Valley. A reflection on its territorial reconstitution during the second half of the 19th century. Anu.hist.reg.front. [online]. 2023, vol.28, n.2, pp.281-315. Epub July 21, 2023. ISSN 0122-2066. https://doi.org/10.18273/revanu.v28n2-2023011.
During the second half of the 19th century, the bipartisan conflict and the weight of the indigenous population in present-day southwestern Colombia set up a favorable legal framework for the permanence of the resguardo regime. In that context, this article approaches the territorial reconfiguration of the indigenous communities located in the Atriz Valley. The text distances itself from essentialist and ahistorical views and seeks to highlight its dynamism and complexity. It is considered that beyond the legal framework of division or not, these forms of organization experiment changes. Through historiographic review and analysis of laws, censuses, demands, communications from state authorities and indigenous, we show that to the rhythm of political conjunctures, civil and judicial lawsuits, sale and purchase of land, the territory of the indigenous groups of colonial origin was reconfigured, just as new towns were formed and governed under the resguardo regime.
