Abstract

VALERIO-ULLOA, Sergio Manuel. Historiography on the confiscation of the lands of the Indian peoples in Jalisco, Mexico, during the 19th century. Anu.hist.reg.front. [online]. 2023, vol.28, n.2, pp.337-367.  Epub July 21, 2023. ISSN 0122-2066.  https://doi.org/10.18273/revanu.v28n2-2023013.

The objective of this paper is to make a historiographical analysis of the disentailment of the lands of indigenous communities in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. Most of the studies in this regard maintain that the indigenous communities were dispossessed of their lands as a result of the liberal laws during the second half of the 19th century, and that they resisted such dispossession. The result of this analysis is that most of the authors who address the subject do not carry out specific research at the level of indigenous village, since they limit themselves to repeating the predominant narrative at the national level, which supports the dispossession thesis without demonstrating or providing information or documentation on specific cases in Jalisco. The conclusion of this essay is that the disentailment of the lands of the Indian villages took place during the first half of the 19th century.
