Abstract
GALARZA-RIOS, Juan Jesús. Historical thought and social function of history: the case of the zapotec intelectual Victor de la Cruz. Anu.hist.reg.front. [online]. 2023, vol.28, n.2, pp.401-433. Epub July 21, 2023. ISSN 0122-2066. https://doi.org/10.18273/revanu.v28n2-202301.
The article aims to analyze the historical thought of the Zapotec intellectual Víctor de la Cruz, who developed his work in Mexico during the last third of the 20th century. For this, in the first section I elaborate a biography of Víctor de la Cruz in which I try to insert him into the historical-cultural horizon of the category of critical Latin American indigenous intellectuals. While in the second and last section, I board the conception of history of this writer embodied in his main historical texts, and the way as he granted historical knowledge a social function by drawing a line of continuity between the historical processes and facts studied in the texts and the ethno-political movement in which he and his ethnic group were immersed in the present. The article allows, from a case study, to approach the knowledge of Latin American critical indigenous intellectuals, as well as the ethnic historiography opened and practiced by these new social subjects.
