Abstract

CHAMPEIL-DESPLATS, Véronique. Laïcité et liberté religieuse en France: aux sources de la loi interdisant la dissimulation intégrale du visage dans l'espace public. Rev. Derecho Estado [online]. 2012, n.29, pp.51-72. ISSN 0122-9893.

While they remained relatively stable and marked until the 1980s, relations between the French State and the manifestations of religious freedom take new forms of conflict from the so-called Cases the "veil in school" that arises at the end of the 1980s. First, the response of the authorities has tended to focus on pragmatism to the users of the public service, but firmness against agents of this on. Secondly, from the years 2000, there is an outbidding between radical manifestations of religious affiliation and political who remember the importance of the Republican principles which include the principle of secularism. This development resulted in a hardening of the legislative speech. This ultimate passes from a control of the expression of religious affiliation of students in schools, to a dress control of any person in public space.

Keywords : Religious freedom; secularism; veil; republican principals; women; schools; public utilities; public agents.
