Abstract

GAVIRIA, JUAN ANTONIO  and  LONDONO, NÉSTOR RAÚL. Lawyernomics in Colombia. The Economic Effects of High Levels of Legal Activity. Rev. Derecho Estado [online]. 2022, n.52, pp.207-245.  Epub Jan 21, 2023. ISSN 0122-9893.  https://doi.org/10.18601/01229893.n52.07.

This research paper defines legal activity as the capital and labor resources used to produce, interpret, apply and enforce all kinds of legal rules and measures it through some statistics on lawyers and lawsuits in Colombia in order to show that an excess of legal professionals and litigation may be economically harmful, outlining some proposals to improve the current situation. For such purpose, this text first revisits the main theories about the economic effects of legal activity and later applies them to the particularities of the Colombian legal market and litigation landscape.

Keywords : Economic analysis; law; legal profession; litigation.
