Abstract

ORTIZ-TORRES, María José. Scope of the Environmental Education Policy Regarding the 2030 Agenda. Educ. Educ. [online]. 2021, vol.24, n.3, e2434.  Epub Mar 28, 2022. ISSN 0123-1294.  https://doi.org/10.5294/edu.2021.24.3.4.

This article intends to discuss the current scope of the Environmental Education Policy in light of the international commitments the Colombian government has made to mitigate and adapt to climate change through the sustainable development goals (SDG). We reviewed secondary sources and characterization in education, climate change, and SDG, these three central aspects being of a qualitative nature. In brief, environmental education is crucial to strengthen the actions needed for mitigation and adaptation to global warming in the context of sustainability and development from its multiple perspectives. However, adjustments to the Environmental Education Policy are necessary to fulfill the 2030 Agenda since this instrument is cross-cutting. Thus, environmental education plays a decisive role in the formation of current society models.

Keywords : Environmental agendas; environmental education; climate change; sustainable development; education policy.
