In this paper I will describe how divorce has been regulated in Colombia, from the time of the Colony until the promulgation of the 1991 Constitution and Law 25 of 1992. I highlight political and religious factors that directly influenced these norms. Finally, I explain how this institution has contributed to the social positioning of women.
