Abstract

PIERELLA, María Paula. The University Interpellated by Current Discourses: Towards an Analysis of Optimizing Pedagogies. Folios [online]. 2019, n.49, pp.3-17. ISSN 0123-4870.  https://doi.org/10.17227/folios.49-9387.

From a perspective of social discourse based on the work of Marc Angenot (2010), this paper analyzes some of the discourses that currently interpellate the university. Based on the belief that optimizing principles predominate in these discourses, aimed towards the permanent and polyvalent training and updating throughout life, as well as the continuous self-control and the short-term excellence accreditations, the paper mainly addresses the competency-based education model and the intent to displace teaching with learning. Later, the paper refers to the incidence of these transformations in the academic profession. Finally, the paper considers the principle of university education as a human and social right. This formulation generates a novelty that, at its own discretion, can contribute to putting into discussion the hegemony of the market as a focal point from which the meaning of higher education is analyzed, but which also is under risk of being assimilated by the optimizing nature of corporate discourse.

Keywords : university; discourses; optimization; competences; human rights.
